Nollywood actor and comedian, John Okafor, famously known as Mr Ibu, recently shared a heartfelt video on Instagram, revealing that he is currently bedridden due to a "strange and dangerous illness." The viral video captured the comic actor's appeal for prayers and financial aid from his fans.
In the emotional message, the 62-year-old comic icon disclosed that he has been hospitalized for two weeks, and his doctors have reportedly recommended the amputation of his legs as a potential solution. Lying on a hospital bed with his wife and daughter beside him, Mr Ibu expressed his plea for support, stating that he does not wish to face the prospect of losing his legs.
Desperate for assistance, Mr Ibu shared his bank account details, urging well-wishers to provide financial contributions. He also emphasized the importance of their prayers during this trying time.
Confirming her father's health condition, Mr Ibu's daughter, Jasmine Okafor, used her Instagram platform to inform the public about his two-week hospitalization. She highlighted the urgency of the situation, expressing concern that his health is not improving despite medical attention in one of Lagos' leading private medical facilities. Jasmine appealed for help, requesting individuals and organizations to come forward and support her father's medical treatment overseas, as his condition continues to deteriorate.
This is not the first time Mr Ibu has faced health challenges. Earlier this year, he was hospitalized at Zenith Medical and Kidney Centre in Abuja after allegedly being poisoned by unknown individuals during a visit to his hometown in Enugu State. The beloved actor has previously spoken out about being targeted by his "village people" and claimed that his relatives even paid domestic staff to poison him due to his successful career.
Recognized for his immense talent as a comic character, Mr Ibu has carved a niche for himself in the Nigerian entertainment industry. With a career spanning over 200 Nollywood movies, he has entertained audiences with memorable roles in films such as "Mr Ibu," "Mr Ibu and His Son," "Coffin Producers," "Husband Suppliers," "Mr Ibu in London," "Police Recruit," "9 Wives," "Ibu in Prison," and "Keziah," among others.
Mr Ibu's plea for support has touched the hearts of many, prompting an outpouring of well-wishes and concern from fans and well-wishers. As the Nigerian entertainment community rallies together, the hope remains that Mr Ibu will receive the necessary aid and medical attention to overcome his current health challenges.
We send our thoughts and prayers to Mr Ibu and his family during this challenging time.
