Some residents of Mupambe Township in Mufulira who were victims of the 2012 typhoid that broke out as a result of seal leakages on water and sewerage pipes have demanded for compensation.
About 2,200 cases of typhoid were recorded when the disease broke out in Mupambe township, which has more than 3,200 residents.
The resident’s told Mafken FM radio that out of the over two thousand two hundred victims only 30 people have been listed to be compensated.
The residents are demanding to know the criteria which has been used for the 30 to be listed for compensation.
And when reached for a comment over the matter, Mulonga Water and Sanitation Company Acting Public Relations Bright Mtonga said the firm will issue a detailed statement over the matter this week.
Meanwhile, a Non Governmental Organization NGO in Mufulira has welcomed the compensation of Mupambe residents.
Development Education Community Project DECOP Executive Director Charles Mulila said this in an interview with Mafken FM radio today.
