Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema and Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States of America-USA yesterday held discussions that "were extremely friendly, reflecting the close and cordial nature of bilateral relations that have existed between the two countries for a long time".
Writing through his Facebook page, President Hichilema said he felt greatly honoured and privileged to have hosted Harris at State House.
"In our talks with the Vice President and her delegation, we reaffirmed our commitment to our shared values of political pluralism and democracy , respect for human rights, adherence to the rule of law, accountable leadership that is transparent and respectable to the processes and Institutions of governance.
We expressed our profound gratitude on the initiatives by the US Government that advances the partnership between our two countries, in Commercial Development, Investment in Democratic Institutions and good governance, Innovative Food Security and Climate Solutions and cooperation towards the Health Sector among many other areas.
Vice President Harris spent her formative years in Lusaka with her Grandfather P. V. Gopalan who was a senior advisor in the civil service, to our Founding President Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda.
Vice President Harris is therefore held with a special place in the heart of our nation, while our people will remain grateful to her Grandfather, for the invaluable service he rendered to our country, in the early years of Zambia," he said.
Harris is on her weeklong tour of some African countries, having earlier been to Ghana and Tanzania.
