Three people: A Kenyan, Russian and Ugandan were last night arrested in Roysambu while allegedly trying to fix the Nairobi City Stars vs Sofapaka match that will be played today at the Ruaraka Grounds.
According to the plan, City Stars were to concede a goal in the first ten minutes. Then concede another goal from the 80th minute of the game.
But unknown to three, they had been set up and were arrested immediately after meeting eight City Stars players and an official.
The three are Russian Akhiad Kubiev, Ugandan Bernard Navendi and Kenyan Martin Munga Mutua. After their arrest, they bragged to the police that they are well connected and would stay behind bars for long before attempting to bribe the officers with Sh1 million.
The players were to get Kes. 1.8 million ($14,000) if the deal went through. They were to first receive Kes. 30, 000 each through Mpesa as transport to the match venue.
They admitted to have infiltrated several local clubs.
