More than 200 thousand people in southern part of Malawi have been rendered destitute by the ruthless Cyclone Freddy; many have died while search continues for hundreds of others who are suspected to have been trapped under mud and some infrastructures.
Video clips from some scenes are nervewrecking and very poignant.
Malawi is at the bottom of the least developed countries in the world with over half of its populace living in abject poverty; below $1 a day, according to United Nations recent report.
Natural disasters like Cyclone Freddy exacerbate the situation!
Many are left helpless, hopeless and wistful. A need for humanitarian assistance is something that needs no emphasis.
A spot check in camps, mostly classrooms, and churches finds that women and children have been greatly devastated by the tragedy. Our dear friends are in critical need of basic things like food, shelter, clothes and other sanitary essentials.
Some kids have lost their entire families and some aged people are hopelessly living in undesirable conditions.
Several interventions by the government and other agencies, institutions and individuals are in place, but run short of meeting the needs of the overwhelming number of the affected people.
It is common knowledge that the disasters have affected the entire globe, resulting in inflation and related bad economic conditions to everyone but that doesn't deny us from assisting each other in times of crisis like the one that has befallen our folks in the south part of Malawi.
Please, donate any little something you have. It will go along way to help our parents, brothers and sisters in this most difficult moment. They need us:
