South African national rugby union team captain, Siya
Kholisi has announced that he will join French club after World Cup.
Siya Kholisi who led the Springboks to a World Cup in
victory in 2019, will play outside South Africa for the first time in his career. The 31-year flanker has played home throughout his 11 years professional career.
Posting on his social media profiles, the first black captain to lead Springboks to a World Cup victory revealed that his desire to stay close to his family is what has fueled the move.
“It has been an
incredible collaborative effort between the Sharks and Racing 92 that has
enabled me to start a new chapter in my career. I want to give a massive thanks
to the Sharks for welcoming me with open arms in 2021 while their support over
the last couple of years has been hugely influential during a key period in my
career.
“I am immensely appreciative that the Sharks have given me
their blessing to make this move, and it goes without saying that I will
continue to give my all for the team over the next few months.”
Kholisi, joined a Durban based club, Cell C Sharks in 2021. He
has agreed to terminate his contract with the management of the club to join Paris based giants, Racing 92.
