Using genetic evidence from Eurasian ancient genomes and present-day populations is shows that all people across the world migrated from Africa |
Many centuries have gone now since the study of human
origins using fossils began. Thousands of scientists have been wanting to
understand to which species humans (Homo sapiens) descended from.
These scientists mainly use comparisons among shapes of
preserved bones, teeth and other artifacts. Well, this method of human origin
discovery started to wilt in late 1900s. In 1987, Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA)
started to offer some clues about human evolution.
Researchers from Berkeley, a California based University
analyzed DNA of people from all angles of the world. Their focus was based on
Mitochondrial DNA. Infants inherit mtDNA from mothers and it doesn’t experience
genetic reshuffles. It preserves human
data (originality) since the beginning of time.
In Africa, the research indicated the greatest multiplicity
in mtDNA. And when the researchers
constructed a family tree with their genetic data, it came up with two main
branches. One only in Africa, and the other one across the world, Africa included.
Homo heidelbergensis was discovered in West Africa |
This gave them the suggested conclusion that the parent
lineage of them all originated from Africa.
Time by time, more data is collected with deferent techniques
and new discoveries but all only strengthen the conclusion that Africa is
indeed a source of human evolution.
