Prepare yourself for action and come to Black Star Square to join Global Citizen and your favourite musicians.
On September 24, you should be in Ghana and near Black Star Square. Why? because of the upcoming Global Citizen Festival in Accra!
A celebration of music and social change, the Global Citizen Festival brings together musicians, activists, world leaders, and Global Citizens to call for immediate action on the most pressing global challenges. The Global Citizen Festival stage offers a venue for performances by some of the largest musicians in the world and a platform for world leaders, business executives, and philanthropists to make commitments to eradicate extreme poverty and promote social change.
This year, we are bringing the Global Citizen mission to Ghana, which is often referred to as the “gateway to Africa.” 2022 also marks the 65th anniversary of Ghana’s independence and the 20th anniversary of the African Union, creating further opportunities for cooperation to advance equality, development, and the eradication of poverty on the continent and around the world.
In Accra, who is performing?
For this amazing lineup, are you prepared? It’s about to become legendary, so brace yourself. The following performers will perform at Black Star Square on September 24: Usher, Gyakie, H.E.R., Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Stormzy, SZA, and TEMS.
When Usher performs as the major act, we’ll be able to live out our fantasies. We have Ghana’s own Gyakie, Sarkodie, and Stonebwoy standing in for the host nation and ready to raise hell. This September, H.E.R. and Stormzy will return to the Global Citizen stage, while SZA and TEMS, who just made history by becoming the first African female musician to win the Best International Act at the BET Awards, will also rock the house. These incredible performers are all gearing ready to give electrifying shows at the renowned Black Star Square.
The 2022 Global Citizen Festival will be a global call to action for world leaders.
Why Ghana?
Global Citizen’s goal is to strengthen the pan-African movement.
Accra’s Global Citizen Festival expands on recent events held in South Africa and Nigeria. Over $4.7 billion of the $7.2 billion in funding announced during the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 in 2018 has been distributed by commitment makers to communities and organisations fighting extreme poverty since the historic event, impacting the lives of over 117 million people in South Africa and around the world.
More than this, Ghana’s struggle for independence has historically played a role in guiding Africa toward self-governance, indigenous determination, and building African agency. We honour both that past and Ghana of today, which, in its 65th year of independence, has come together as a notable cultural force.
This September, Global Citizen will continue its mission by urging world leaders to act to empower girls, address climate change, remove structural barriers to poverty, and stand up for and safeguard the rights of activists and advocates around the globe. To accomplish this, we ask them to take action and commit $600 million to invest in the future of women and girls, address the $10 billion funding gap for climate change, and provide $500 million to assist African farmers in responding as well as urgent debt relief to End Extreme Poverty NOW.
Ghana is getting the Global Citizen Festival. You must be prepared to attend this event.
